Social Justice Forum - SMC
When: April 05, 2012, 8:00 am - 10:00 pm
Where: Superstition Mountain Campus Courtyard, 444, 442, 273 E Old West Highway, Apache Junction, AZ 85119
Superstition Mountain Campus, Courtyard, 442, 444
This feature CAC event of the Superstition Mountain Campus boosts well known keynote, community advocates, entertainment, film showing, and an awesome opportunity for our community to come together and tackle some issues that affect us all. "Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere" was once said so this Forum will enable all attendees to gain an understanding of what social justice is. This year's Forum will focus on many pertinent issues in our community, poverty, health care, and violence - violence against children, women, gays, and lesbians.
Choose a path of topics or come to a few of each: (1) Participate in civil discourse about bullied youth (coming out in today's society) or a presentation/discussion geared toward parents whose child recently came out. (2) Let's look at the faces of poverty, and how current economic forces are re-shaping the class divide. (3) Explore issues of domestic violence from a child sexual trafficking lense. (4) Hot button topic of today is health care, so come and hear about research and let's discuss why and where there are discrepancies.
The Social Justice Forum is a unique opportunity for us to unite, learn, and discuss urgent topics enveloped in today's best humanities scholarly research. And don't worry; we won't leave you with problems and nothing to do: explore the Opportunities Fair of local agencies and non-profits. End your day in a Social Justice Festival with music and with a screening and discussion afterward of the motion picture: "Crash."
