New Student Resources

Before Your 1st Advising Appointment  (PDF) – This checklist walks you through where to begin as a new CAC student.  Following these steps ensures that you have access to your student account, placement tools and assessments, degree requirements, as well as other important information you need before meeting with your CAC Enrollment Advisor.
New Student Advising Checklist PLUS Next Steps (PDF) – This checklist addresses topics covered during your first appointment with your Enrollment Advisor, as well as your next steps afterwards.

Placement Tool

The Placement Tool ensures incoming CAC students are placed in the appropriate English/Reading and Math courses.

Complete both Placement Tools (English/Reading and Math) prior to your advising appointment. This will help the advisor guide and support you in the appropriate course placement.

If you are still unsure of which math to take, complete the Math Skills Assessment to assist in determining your current level of skills abilities.

Note: ♦ For guidance in appropriate math course placement please use the Math Placement Guide for Students and Advisors.

Note: ♦You will receive the results when you complete the tool. Bring any placement results to your advising meeting.

Students may consult with an academic advisor before registering to ensure the best course fit.

Students may need to enroll in foundational level (aka refresher) courses to help gain the academic skills necessary for success at the college level.

A student may self-place using the multiple measures tool.

In classes such as English and Math, a brief in-class assessment may be given the first day of class to confirm appropriate placement to best serve student educational success.

Current High School Students may be placed in courses based upon a recommendation from a high school guidance counselor or other qualified high school representative.

CACPipeline– This tool allows you to explore careers and match with CAC degrees. Register and complete the assessment.
Uploading Documents to Student Portal  -During your journey at CAC, you will need to submit various documents (i.e. transcripts, forms, affidavits) at the request of different departments with the college.  The easiest and most secure way to do this is to use the Student Portal.  This is a step-by-step video that walks you through the process.
