SBDC - Business Planning

What is a Business Plan?  Why is business planning so important?  How do I write a business plan?

A business plan is an exercise that will provide a guide to a successful business.  This exercise will help the entrepreneur analyze and develop the business.  The business plan also can be used to analyze financial position and secure financing and loans.

The business plan should be presented in a clear concise but exciting manner.  It should include a table of contents, a narrative, and graphics for financial charts.

The plan should contain enough information to show the complete story of the business, including strengths and weaknesses, and what sets this company apart from what is currently in the marketplace.

The projections about the company should be based upon realistic assumptions, not exaggerated claims.  The entrepreneur should know the plan by heart and check for any grammatical or spelling errors before presenting to potential investors.

The following documents will provide some more in-depth information on business plans, business planning and business plan writing.
