Skills Center Nursing Assistant Program
Central Arizona College, Casa Grande Center, Skills Center Programs offers a short-term training program geared to prepare individuals for employment positions in the healthcare field of Nursing Assistant.
The Skills Center NA Program is taught in a simulated workplace environment that includes practical hands-on training, classroom/lab instruction, and communityclinicals. This program is scheduled on a fast-track system. The length of the program will be approximately 16 to 18 weeks, Monday - Friday with hours from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend classes will also be offered.
Each student will also participate in the Employment Readiness Program, the core curriculum for the Skills Center. It is designed to provide 'soft skill' training and educate participants in the keys to success in preparing for employment, finding employment, and experiencing success on the job.
Upon completion of the Skills Center NA Program, students are prepared with the soft skills and healthcare training required by today’s agencies and businesses.
What Does A NA Do?
A Nursing Assistant works along side a team of other health professionals providing services to a variety a individuals. Some of the work environments in which a NA might find employment are in a short or long term care or rehabilitation facility, nursing home, hospital, and home health agency.
The services NA's provide to their clients include, but are not limited to, monitoring blood pressure, temperature, and other vital signs; moving and transferring patients; aiding in personal hygiene and grooming; monitoring nutrition and fluid intake; basic wound and emergency care; and other healthcare related services that fall within the scope of training and certification of a NA.
Steps to Enrollment
Students who want more information or would like to attend the Skills Center NA Program may contact the center at 520-494-6053 or attend an orientation (continue to check this site for dates and times). Students may do this prior to completing the Registration Packet. The Registration Packet will explain all of the steps students need to complete prior to enrolling in the Skills Center NA program.
Students who desire to register for the Skills Center NA program will need to complete and return the Registration Packet which includes the following documents:
- Completed Request for Registration Form
- Completed Health Care Provider Signature Form
- TB skin test completed within last 6 months
- Health Care Provider CPR card received/renewed within the past 12 months (may take CPR as part of the program)
- Copy of test scores from referring agency if taken at agency
Materials Needed For Skills Center NA Program
The materials needed for the Skills Center NA Program will be provided to the student during class, if the student is sponsored by a referring agency. Students not sponsored by a referring agency are responsible for all required class materials.
All students will be required to obtain a background check. Only those students who have no discrepancy found on the check will remain in the program. Please contact the Skill Center for additional information.
Waiver of Certification Guarantee
Admission or graduation from the Central Nursing Assistant Program does not guarantee obtaining a CNA certificate. Certification requirements and the subsequent procedures are the exclusive right and responsibility of the Arizona State Board of Nursing. Students must satisfy the requirements of the Nurse Practice Act: Statutes, Rules, and Regulations, independently of any college or school requirements for graduation.
