Construction Trades and Facilities Maintenance Program

Central Arizona College offers a short-term training program geared to preparing individuals for entry-level employment positions in construction trades and facilities maintenance. This interactive program is taught in a simulated workplace environment and includes practical hands-on training, classroom/lab instruction, and community based projects. We also offer a Solar and Green Collar Program which demonstrates the Green-Collar Jobs and the skills related.

The overall Construction Trades program consists of three components: Part One and Part Two of the Employment Readiness Program and 17-weeks, 36 credit hours, instruction in construction trades and facilities maintenance. The construction trades / facilities maintenance specific instruction itself consists of four courses:  

Introduction to Construction Trade Crafts
Construction Trades I 
Construction Trades II
Facilities Maintenance I

Upon completion of the Construction Trades and Facilities Maintenance program, students are equipped with the necessary soft skills and the marketable construction trades skills to be competitive in today’s workforce.

Students gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:

Safety - tool use and construction/maintenance environments
OSHA and NCCER (National Center for Construction and Research)

Tool Operation - Power and hand tools (including, but not limited to)

Miter Saw / Skil Saw / Pneumatic Nail Gun /
Power Sawall / Electric Drills / Roto Zip Spiral Saw /
Hammers / tape measure / plumb bob / trowels / tubing cutter /
Pipe reamers / soldering torch / T-squares

Training in the Fields of:

Plumbing – plastic and copper
Concrete – mixing, slab set-up, pouring, and finishing
Carpentry – wood and steel construction
Drywall – installation and finishing
Electrical – conduit, fittings, preparation, and installation
Masonry – support and laying of brick and FlexCrete™

Students checkout classroom books from the program library. Workbooks, classroom supplies, hard-hat, steel-toed boats, safety glasses, and gloves for lab and community projects are provided.  These tools remain with students to begin their employment process.

Certificates of completion and achievement are given to students successfully completing the Construction Trades and Facilities Maintenance program.
