Kim Dismuke
Assistant Track Coach
Coach Dismuke begins her third year with Central Arizona having had a record breaking first season. In 2008, both Men and Women’s relay teams were extremely successful. The Men’s 4x100 relay (Edwards, Howard, Walker and Reed) won the Sun Angel Classic in a time of 39.32. The Women’s 4x100 relay (Robinson, Hope, Richardson, and Kellman) set a new school record with a 44.97 at the same competition. The Women’s 4x400 relay team won the gold medal at the National Championships in May. A number of CAC sprinters thrived with Coach “Kim” in 2008 running lifetime personal bests. Saravia Richardson (now attending Louisville University) ran 11.70 and 24.00. Liann Kellman (Now attending LSU) ran 11.48 and 23.48. Karla Hope ran two personal bests with a 53.43 in the 400M and a 23.56 in the 200M. Jamar Howard (Now attending LSU) ran his personal best of 46.70 this past season as well.
Coach Dismuke comes to Central after having been the Head Track & Field Coach for the past ten years at Moon Valley High School in Phoenix, AZ. During her tenure at M.V.H.S. she has coached and mentored numerous Regional and State Champions. Four times she was voted the Arizona 4A Desert Sky/Skyline's Track & Field Coach of the Year. For the past six years, she has also been an Assistance Track & Field Coach for the Junior Olympics team Arizona Rising Suns where she has coached numerous National Champions.
As a member of the Illinois State University Women's Track & Field team, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice/Sociology. At ISU she competed in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dash. She was also a member of the 400 and 1600 meter relay team. Coach Kim was a member of a 400 meter relay team that qualified for the NCAA meet and to this day still holds the school and stadium record. She was a Captain of the ISU Women's Track & Field team for two consecutively years and voted Minority Athlete of the Year. As a student, she was the President of the ISU Criminal Justice Association and Coordinator of the ISU Mentorship Program. Coach Kim also has a Masters in Special Education from the University of Phoenix.
Coach Kim is presently the Arizona USA Track & Field Women's Chair. She is USA Track & Field Level I certified. She looks forward to working with the tremendous coaching staff and athletes at Central Arizona College. Coach Dismuke believes hard work, dedication and commitment is the key to success on and off the track. Her motto is "Believing is Achieving." Coach Kim resides in Glendale, AZ, is single and lives with her Chihuahua "Sweetpea".
Paul Tavares
Assistant Track Coach
Coach Tavares was born in Queens NY, and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Parkside. He competed in Cross Country and Track and Field in high school and college. In addition, he is a doctor of chiropractic, and graduated from National Chiropractic College in Illinois. Coach Tavares brings knowledge and experience to Vaquero Cross Country and Track and Field. In nine years as Head Coach at Casa Grande High School, he developed successful Cross Country and Track & Field programs. Dr. Tavares practices Chiropractic part time, and continues to teach science at Casa Grande High. Coach Tavares is married to Lindsay Tavares and lives in Tucson.
Andrew Wood-Assistant Track CoachAndrew Wood was born in Kingston, Jamaica and began his illustrious track and field career at the prestigious and highly-respected Kingston College Boys’ School in Kingston. His standout performances in Jamaica’s Interschool Boys’ and Girls’ Championships landed him a scholarship in 1986 to attend Arizona State University (ASU). The Grand CanyonState has been his home ever since.
During his four years at ArizonaState, he competed in the 110m hurdles, sprint relays, and long jump. In 1990, he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and took a hiatus from the sport to pursue his other passion: working with disadvantaged youths.
However, the lure of athletics never waned, and in 1999, Andrew embraced his passion for the sport in a new capacity: as coach. He has been a sprint, hurdle, and long jump coach for Moon Valley High (1999-2003) and North High (2007-2008) respectively, hurdle and jump coach for Phoenix College (2003-2006), while concurrently working as a volunteer coach with the “Do Right Track Club” (2003-present). Currently, Andrew is a USATF level 1 certified coach.
Among his many successes as training junior athletes, he is especially proud of the current NCAA triple jump champion, William Clay; 2007 NCAA long jump champion, Dashelle Andrews; as well as 2008 Arizona State 110m hurdle champion, Michael Woodham.
Besides athletics, Andrew continues his career as a juvenile probation officer which he has done for the past nineteen years. He is happily married to wife, Janelle, and is father to a college-bound athlete, Bryce.
Chuy Salazar-Assistant Track Coach
Coach Jesus “Chuy” Salazar is USATF Level I Certified track and field coach. Coach Salazar has been coaching high school track and field for 12 years. He specializes in pole vault. Salazar has coached two Arizona state champions at the high school level from Yuma and Casa Grande. He has been a volunteer coach for three seasons at Central Arizona College. He coached one national pole vault champion and one runner up. He assisted in coaching one two-time national champion decathlete in the pole vault event. Coach Salazar lives in Casa Grande and has four children Janelle, Breanna, Zack, and Mallory.
