Central Arizona Men’s Basketball
JD Pollock is entering his first season as Head Coach for the Central Arizona College Men's Basketball team. Pollock was promoted after having been the Assistant Coach at Central Arizona the previous two years. In those two seasons the Vaqueros had an impressive record of 50-15, including a 30-5 record (best in school history) and an Elite Eight appearance in the National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas in 2012-13. Pollock served as the head of recruitment, academic affairs, and skill development for the Vaqueros in his time as the Assistant.
"I would like to thank to Central Arizona President Helmich and Athletic Director Chuck Schnoor for the promotion to take over as Head Coach. This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I plan on bringing a positive and enthusiastic approach each day. We have a great group of young men coming in that are excited to get started, as am I."
Prior to making the move to CAC, he worked as the Graduate Assistant Coach for Texas Christian University Men's Basketball for two years under Head Coach Jim Christian and his staff. While at TCU he says he "learned as much or more about basketball and the ins and outs of a program in those two years than my entire playing career combined. I will always owe Coach Christian for my first chance."
Pollock began his collegiate playing career at what was NAIA DI member (now NCAA DIII) Berry College in Rome, Ga. After playing two seasons for the Vikings, he chose to transfer to NCAA DI Kennesaw State University for his junior and senior seasons. After redshirting, he was Team Captain, Defensive Player of the Year and a leader in the Atlantic Sun Conference in steals and assist/turnover ratio before suffering a career ending knee injury at Florida A&M in December of 2008. Reflecting back on it he says "It was definitely the hardest thing I have ever had to go through, however I learned a tremendous amount about myself and was able reprioritize my life in a better way because of it."
Pollock is from Atlanta, Ga and graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management. He also received a Master's of Liberal Arts Degree from Texas Christian University in 2011. He is happily engaged to his fiancé Irene Hester. They will be getting married next summer in June of 2014.
