Current: I have taught at CAC for 8 years and was an adjunct instructor for many years. I currently am a Professor of Business and HRM (Hospitality and Restaurant Management). In the past, I was the CAC Culinary Arts instructor. I am one of two SPC Lead Faculty that help the Academic Dean with college issues and other faculty. Lastly, I am an Acadmic Advisor with CAC student services and if you need assistance planning your course load that you will make an appintment with me.
Past Experience: I was a high school instructor for 15 years teaching career development and culinary arts at CGUHS. Before entering education my background in the business world includes bank teller, receptionist and new accounts secretary; an inventory clerk, accounts payable vlrtk and the timekeeper for the Asarco, Inc., a copper mine.
Formal Education: I am a local Casa Grande Union High School graduate; an AA from Central Arizona College (CAC, yes this institution!); a BS from Arizona State University (ASU) in Home Economics & Career Technical Secondary Education and Career & Technical Education; Culinary Training includes attending Cordon Bleu, London-England, Johnson & Wales, RI, The Culinary Insitute of American, NY; M.Ed (Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Education and Bio-Science minor; Adminstration Principalship, The University of Phoenix.
Certifications: I am a Certified Culinary Educator (CCE) through the American Culinary Federation. I have also earned the Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) certification through the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
I am also a Certified "True Colors" (personality assessment) Trainer and a "Secrets of Exceptional Speaking" presenter.
My formal culinary education spans over the last ten years by training and attending several premier culinary schools including The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) at Graystone, Helena, Calif. as well as the campus in Hyde Park, New York; Johnson and Wales University, Providence RI; Le Cordon Bleu, London, England; Phoenix College Culinary Program.
Other industry work experience: I worked as a food writer for the Arizona Republic Newspaper, writing curriculum and activities showing teachers across the state, how to utilize the the Wednesday Food section in their classroom instruction. I have an education consulting business for career development as well as culinary arts.
Achievements: In 2004 I was awarded the Arizona Outstanding Post-Secondary FACS (Family and Consumer Science) Educator Award by the Arizona Deptaratment of Education. In 2005-2006, I was honored to receive the prestigious CAC George Fridell Award for Teaching Excellence in recognition of innovations in instruction and special caring and support given to students. Along with that was the NISOD National Award for Post Secondary Teachers. This past 2007 marked my proudest achievement in teaching - to be named the CAC Outstanding Faculty chosen by students.
Clubs & Memberships: I have been active with the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education(I-CHRIE) since 1996. I currently serve on several advisory boards throughout the state. I am a member of the the Arizona Hospitality Articulation Task Force. I continue to work with the high schools as a CAC representative on Tech Prep. Locally I am a Casa Grande Regional Hospital Auxillary Member. I am a Family and Consumer Science (FACS) member. I belong to Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG), a teachers honors organization. I also volunteer with the Pinal County Red Cross disaster assistance.
