Health Information Management (HIM) is the process of maintaining, collecting and analyzing data that doctors, nurses and other health care providers rely on to deliver quality health care.

Our professional association is called the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)…we are known as Health Information Management (HIM) professionals.  HIM professionals are specialists in managing patient health information and medical records, administering computer information systems, improving data quality for continuum of care and controlling health care costs.  HIM professionals are credentialed by AHIMA (The American Health Information Management Association).

Employment as a HIM Professional requires a credential. The Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential requires an associate's degree and successful performance on the RHIT certification exam.

The HIT AAS Degree Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), Graduates from this program are eligible to sit for the RHIT examination.
