What is the CBC course?
The Certified Breastfeeding Counselor (CBC) course is a collaborative effort between clinical and public health breastfeeding professionals in the State of Arizona. It is designed to provide a thorough, yet affordable, breastfeeding course for current and aspiring breastfeeding professionals from all health care arenas. The course covers topics such as the anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding, medications and illness during breastfeeding, and breastfeeding in special situations. Students who complete this course must work within their scope of practice as professionals, recognizing certain breastfeeding situations require referrals to the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC’s).
Who should attend the Certified Breastfeeding Counselor?
The Certified Breastfeeding Counselor Courses provide an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to achieve a level of proficiency for lactation counseling or for professionals looking for a continuing education opportunity. This may include persons currently practicing as:
Pediatricians and OB/GYN’s
Family Practice Physicians
Nurses
Dietitians/Dietetic Technicians
Nurse Practitioners
Childbirth Educators
WIC personnel
Hospital Staff
Breastfeeding Advocates

Professional Development - Continuing Education
A certificate of achievement is issued to students who meet all course requirements at an overall average of 80% (grade "B" or better based on standardized grading).
This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Arizona Nurses' Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
This activity has been approved for 37.2 L-CERPs and 2.0 E-CERPs by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.
The Commission on Dietetic Registration recognizes academic coursework and certificate programs as means of satisfying professional development. The CBC course is equivalent to 45 CEU’s.
This course does not award a professional credential.
Tuition and Fees for 2011-2012
AZ tuition for the CBC course is $330.00 ($70.00 x 3 college credits + $120.00 Lab fee) book and supplemental materials.
