Visiting Brazilian professor to teach at CAC
By Guy Harrison, Media & Marketing Specialist
PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. - Angela Machado Rocha, a professor from Universidad Federal de Bahia (UFBA), in Salvador, Brazil, will be teaching and lecturing at Central Arizona College during her stay during the 2013 spring semester.
As a bonus, students taking Rocha's Conversational Portuguese course may be given the opportunity to attend UFBA during the 2013 fall semester.
Rocha's arrival at CAC comes as a result of the Fulbright Scholar-in-Resident Grant that CAC received two years ago. The grant allowed Felippe Ramos to travel from UFBA to CAC to teach for two semesters. The resulting ongoing agreement between CAC and UFBA also will provide funding for CAC Professor of English Ginny Atkinson to travel to UFBA to teach in the university's School of Engineering.
Rocha will be hosted by CAC's Communication Division and will teach the following three courses:
• Brazilian Culture - Mondays & Wednesdays (12-1:15 p.m.)
• Conversational Portuguese - Tuesdays & Thursdays (12-1:15 p.m.)
• Biofuel Production and Design - Fridays (12:30-2:30 p.m.)
Students taking Rocha's language class will be eligible to apply for a scholarship to study at UFBA during the 2013 fall semester.
Rocha is a chemical engineer at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) specializing in petrochemical processes. She is an auditor for the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA-UK) and presently pursuing her doctoral degree at CIENAM (Interdisciplinary Center in Energy and Environment) at UFBA, Brazil. Her field of specialization is biodiesel production and innovation.
