Relax mind, body and spirit with yoga
May 23, 2008
PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. - Stretch, relax and find inner peace when Central Arizona College’s Lifelong Learners’ (C.A.L.L.) program offers yoga classes at two locations this summer - Apache Junction and Casa Grande.
In Casa Grande, the class will meet on Saturdays at 11 a.m. from June 7-21 at the From the Heart Yoga Studio, 422 N. Florence St., Suite 3. This is a great introduction to yoga – an opportunity to learn what this routine is all about.
The fee for the three-week introductory course is $15 for C.A.L.L. members and $22 for non-members. Participants will have the option to continue attending yoga at the studio after the introductory sessions.
Central Arizona College adjunct professor Nora Plonsky, who has years of experience in the art of yoga, will teach the class in Casa Grande. Plonsky is a member of the Arizona Yoga Association and has owned and operated her own local studio since 2003. She is registered with the Yoga Alliance as an experienced registered yoga teacher, a designation that requires two years of experience and 1,000 hours of teaching.
“Yoga is a great way to tone your muscles, increase your flexibility and improve your balance while learning proper body mechanics,” Plonsky explained. “Yoga first appeared in India more than 5,000 years ago and is a timeless practice for the body and mind.”
Participants will practice physical poses, breathing and meditation to help reduce stress and tension while improving flexibility and balance. This class is suitable for all levels. Many doctors recommend yoga to help people maintain flexibility and balance.
In Apache Junction, a seven-week yoga program is offered at the Superstition Mountain Campus of Central Arizona College at 273 East Old West Highway. Grace Guilfoyle, a popular yoga instructor throughout the East Valley, will host the class on Tuesdays from June 17-July 29 at 10 a.m. in room 444. The fee is $35 for members and $55 for non-members.
For either program, participants are encouraged to wear loose clothing and bring a mat if they own one.
